Richard DeWeese Obituary

Richard S. DeWeese, age 85, longtime Blue Barns Road resident, died on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 in the peaceful surroundings of his own home. He was born on August 23, 1936, in Schenectady, NY to parents Roland and Helen (Smith) DeWeese.

He moved to Rexford when he was young and started school at the one room schoolhouse at the corner of Rt. 146 and River Rd. At the age of 3 he spent 13 months in Sunnyview Hospital with polio. He was active in his school system and was an excellent student. Following graduation, Richard enlisted with the United States Navy. During his time with the US Navy, he qualified in the Nuclear Program and served on three submarines over the course of 12 years, while continuing training in other nuclear systems. Later he went on to work as a production manager for Imitec Inc, in Schenectady NY, producing high temp wire coatings and specialty thermoplastics, until his retirement after more than 20 years of service. Following his retirement, he volunteered at the Center For Disability Services, Inc in Glenville, NY setting up accessible garden systems and designing crafting projects all the while keeping the staff and clients laughing and happy.

He was the beloved husband of 48 years to Paula (Vaughan) DeWeese; father of Carrie (Kathryn Field) DeWeese, and the late Dickie DeWeese; brother of Clyde (Carolyn) DeWeese and the late Jean DeWeese Rashley. He was the proud uncle of some two dozen nieces and nephews who were always in his heart.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday, February 7, 2022, from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. in the chapel at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Road, Clifton Park, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. A livestream of the service will be available on Richard's Book of Memories at the Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home website.

RIP Richard...Been a long time since Dibble's Garden, baseball in Predel's field with Coach Roland, and riding the Schenectady Railway Company buses on dusty Blue Barns Road.. you were so lucky to get to go to BH-BL...

Dear Paula, Carrie and family,

So sorry to hear about your loss... Besides listening to Dick's beautiful, soft tenor for many years and enjoying his sense of humor, I admired his love and dedication for his family that was genuine and deep. Will pray for you during these difficult days...
