Stephen A. Knapp

Stephen A. Knapp, 72, of Camillus, passed away Wednesday at Highland Hospital in Rochester. Born in Schenectady, he lived in Auburn before moving to Camillus in 1979. Well-known for his analytical and philosophical approach to life, Stephen served in the Vietnam War and retired from the US Marine Corps. He was also employed with the E. John Gravas Center, Cayuga Community College and US Federal Government. Stephen was an advocate for the disabled with the City of Auburn. He cherished family gatherings, SU sports and Starbucks and was a member of the Camillus Elks Lodge #2367. Stephen was predeceased by his parents, John and Martha Knapp; and daughter-in-law, Kristie Carter-Knapp on March 25, 2017. Surviving are his children, Stephen (Dawn) Knapp, Michael Knapp and Danielle (Timothy) Kiser; former wife and lifelong friend, Karen Knapp; grandchildren, Kane Saunders, Braxton, Nathaniel, Aiden and Abigail Knapp, Lowen Kiser and Montgomery Knapp; brothers, Jack (Ellie) Knapp and Albert Knapp; and sisters, Marcia (Ed) Schmidt, Margaret (John) McNamara and Cynthia Knapp. Relatives and friends may call Monday, April 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 18 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Stephen will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
