Thomas M. Hali

1932 - 2020

With great sadness we announce the passing of Thomas M. Hali on Dec. 20, 2020. He was born Sep. 28, 1932 to parents Dr. Michael and Mrs. Jane (Lowry) Hali in Elmira, NY. Tom graduated from Elmira Free Academy, where he formed many lifelong friendships. After earning a bachelor's degree in business from Syracuse University in 1954, he joined the Navy, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant, JG. While stationed in Mobile, AL he met his future wife, Pearl Marie Carlisle, whom he married in 1959. He began his career in Elmira with the Westinghouse management training program. Next he progressed into business development, taking a role with the Elmira Chamber of Commerce, followed by a 1965 move to Niskayuna to join the Schenectady Chamber. He finished his career with the Lawrence Insurance Agency as a Vice President, while also serving as President of Schenectady County Industrial Corp. Tom loved gardening and was forever trimming the arborvitaes, keeping up on local news, watching sports and cheering on Syracuse. He was never happier than when he was at his Keuka Lake cottage, where he could putter around the yard, swim, fish, play croquet, and enjoy the company of family and friends. Tom is survived by his loving wife, Pearl, his children, Tom Jr. of New Smyrna Beach FL, and Deb Hali of Huntington Beach, CA. He was predeceased by his sister and brother in law Margaret and Lee Thomas. No services are planned at this time due to COVID restrictions.
