Thomas L. Rutkoski, 89, passed away peacefully August 29, 2023 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center. Tom was born December 21, 1933 to Leo and Monica Rutkoski in Shamokin, PA and was the oldest of four children.
He lived his early years in the same town until he departed for the Army after high school. Following the Army, he attended Penn State University. He met his beloved wife Rita M. Misheck in Shamokin and married in 1959 while still attending Penn State. Their daughter was born in 1960 and Tom went on to graduate in 1961.
Tom is predeceased by his parents, his wife of 47 years, Rita, and siblings Sr. Inviolata, Sr. Rosetta and Richard Rutkoski.
Tom is survived by his daughter Mary Ann Kritz and son-in-law David Kritz of Ballston Lake. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Kelley Kritz of Glenville, Jason (Lauren) Kritz of Ballston Spa and great-grandchildren Hudson and Quinn Kritz. Tom also leaves behind his brother-in-law Thomas Misheck, three nephews and two nieces as well as many dear friends.
After graduating from Penn State, Tom worked in Maryland for a short time until GE brought him to Schenectady in 1962.
He worked various positions at GE but most notably as a Materials Manager and Quality Manager. After retiring from GE, he worked for Chick Packaging in Scotia in Sales before he fully retired.
Tom's greatest joy was his grandchildren and later his great-grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, family and friends over the years. He spent much of his summers enjoying his camp and boating on The Great Sacandaga Lake. Tom also enjoyed returning to Penn State for many football games with friends, golfing with his buddies, supporting Union hockey, summers at the Saratoga Race Course and winters x-country skiing.
The family would like to extend special thanks to all of the Kingsway Arms Nursing staff in A-Wing for their care and compassion toward Tom and his family over the past several months. Special thanks go to all the amazing nurses, including Dom, A-wing secretary Theresa and the many aides but especially Kavana and Mahadai, who he often spoke about.
Calling hours will be held at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, on Monday, September 4th, from 5 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church in Schenectady on Tuesday, September 5th at 11 a.m. A short calling period will be held prior to church services at the Glenville Funeral Home Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. Funeral procession to church begins at 10:30 a.m. Entombment at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in
Niskayuna, NY.
