Ann Mullan Obituary

Anne Eileen Godvin Mullan of Rolling Meadows A funeral Mass for Anne Eileen Godvin Mullan, 85, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at St. Collette Church in Rolling Meadows. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Palatine. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Road, Rolling Meadows. Eileen Mullan (nee Godvin) was born May 30, 1920, in Chicago, and died at the age of 85, at her home in Rolling Meadows on June 25, 2005. Eileen grew up on the south side of Chicago a vivacious free spirit. She also grew up a profoundly religious and joyful Irish Catholic. She was in nurse's training when she was a young woman and was proud to be put in charge of the men's ward at St. Cathage Hospital during World War II. She was an executive secretary for Wards before John stole her heart and whisked her away to live in New Orleans for the first year of their married life in 1945. They were both infected with the courtly southern manners and the spicy cooking they encountered there! They briefly lived in Pittsburgh, Penn., where John hailed from. They spent the early years of their married life in Chicago, then Park Forest, before finally settling in Rolling Meadows in 1957. They found Roling Meadows a pleasant, friendly town to raise their eight children. Eileen was an active member of the rosary prayer group and the Blue Army, and was a good neighbor. She was proud and pleased to travel all over the world with her husband, John. A self-described 'people person', she loved to meet people from all walks of life and all backgrounds. She spread kindness, good deeds, and cheer to everyone who knew her. She is survived by her sister, Mae; brother, James; sister-in-law, Sally Godvin; and her children, Mary Sue, Terence, David, Elizabeth, Joyce and Robert. She was also a happy grandmother of seven. Gone before her are her beloved parents, John and Katherine; her husband, John; and her two other children, Nancy Ellen and Daniel. Donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association in lieu of flowers. For information, 847-253-0224.
