Carl Wegmann

Carl Wegmann lifelong resident of Elgin Funeral services for Carl Wegmann, 90, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin, with the Rev. David Ezekiel officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Born Oct. 9, 1918, in Elgin, the son of John and Bertha Wegmann, he passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009, in his home. Carl was a graduate of Elgin High School. He was employed as an electrical contractor from 1936 to 1984. He was partner with his brother, William Wegmann Sr., with Wegmann Electric from 1952 to 1981. He was also a partner with his brother with Wegmann Rentals from 1954 to 1981. He was a licensed real estate broker. He was president of Valley Bank & Trust until 1984, and vice president and director at First Bank & Trust of Illinois. He was also an Air Force veteran, serving from 1942 to 1946. He was organizing director for the Elgin National Contractors Association; served as financial secretary with IBEW Local 117; was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Elgin; and was a member of the Elgin Lodge #117 A.F. & A.M. Surviving are his two children, Gary Wegmann of Elgin and Kimberly Reed of Glenn Lake, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene M. Wegmann, in Feb. 17, 2003; and two brothers, John and William Wegmann, Sr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or Seasons Hospice, 606 Potter Road, Park Ridge, IL 60016.
