Charles Gresens Obituary

Charles E. Gresens of Rolling Meadows Funeral services for Charles E. Gresens, 77, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Road, Rolling Meadows. Born Dec. 3, 1924, in Chicago, he died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights. Mr. Gresens was a retired supervisor for the United States Postal Service, where he had worked for 17 years. He was also a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Rolling Meadows American Legion. Charles was instrumental in organizing the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and was past president of the Donhman and Dunn Legion Post in Chicago. In the early days of the Rolling Meadows Community Church, he taught Sunday school in the chicken coop and had parties for the children. He also pulled the yoke in the ground-breaking ceremony for the church. Surviving are his wife, Rita (nee Ostrowski); children, Charles "Skip" (Kathy) Gresens and Robin Gruenfeld; grandchildren, Matthew Gruenfeld and Jennifer, Heather and Sean Gresens; sisters Betty Hentschel and Edith Reade; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Caroline Bandemier and Dorotha Piper; and brother, Marvin Gresens. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association. Friends may visit www.dailyherald.com/obits to express condolences and sign the guest book.
