Eleanor Schewe Obituary

Eleanor Jean Schewe Funeral services for Eleanor Jean Schewe, 70, of Somonauk, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sandwich, with the Rev. David Kaul officiating. Born Aug. 31, 1931, in Harvey, to Allen and Lillian (nee Hanson) Eddy, she passed away Sunday, May 5, 2002, at her home at Lake Holiday. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery, Oakbrook Terrace. Eleanor went through life with a twinkle in her eye. As a living testimony of the love of Jesus, Eleanor poured her life and her love into all those around her. Throughout her life she cuddled babies, winked at preschoolers, visited the lonely and was a constant source of loving-kindness to a multitude of friends and family members. Some of her favorite things in life were "coffee breaks" with her husband, Bob, time with her children and grandchildren, watching sunrises and sunsets over Lake Holiday, "screened-in-porch" talks with the people she loved, and her ferret, George, and dog, Jenny. Eleanor represented the very best of what stay-at-home moms have to offer. She was always there for her children, no matter what. Her crowning achievement in life was to raise four bright and beautiful children to be loving and devoted spouses and parents, passing on her gifts to the second and third generations and beyond. Eleanor is survived by the love of her life, her husband, Robert L. "Bob" Schewe, whom she married Oct. 7, 1950, at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Bruce Toumi, married 25 years with four children; daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Timothy Jank, married 10 years with five children; son and daughter-in-law David and Darlene Schewe, married 24 years with two children; and son and daughter-in-law Paul and Kelly Schewe of Brookfield, married 13 years with three children. She is also survived by her brother Donald (Dorothy) Eddy and sister, Anna (Donald) Kamm. In addition to these, Eleanor served as an "adopted mom" and devoted friend to loved ones too numerous to count. She was preceded in death by her brother Warner Eddy and her parents. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, at Turner Funeral Home, Route 34 in Somonauk. Friends may visit www.dailyherald.com/obits to express condolences and sign the guest book.
