GEORGE W. CVEK Sr.

1925 - 2016

WEST CHICAGO - George W. Cvek Sr., 91, a longtime resident of West Chicago, Illinois; passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 25, Christmas morning. He was born on June 4, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois to Jacob and Minna (Fabyan) Cvek. Brother of Margaret Cvek Rogin and Ted Cvek (Linda). George is a veteran of WWII where he served 3½ years in the United States Marine Corps and saw action in the South Pacific including Bougainville, British Soloman Island, Guam, Marianas Islands, Iwo Jima, and Volcano Islands. He was actively involved in many military support organizations including past commander of V.F.W post 6791. He is survived by wife Virginia (Sindler), sister-in-law Jeanne Jens, children: Linda Cvek-Adams (Robert), George W. Cvek Jr. (Lara), Cindy Bell (Terry), Paul S. Cvek (Veronica), John R. Cvek (Shelley), and Jody M. Cvek (Jami), 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, siblings: Ann, John, Tom, Joe, and Donald, daughter-in-law Donna (Hicks), and granddaughter Rachel. A memorial service will be held, Monday January 2 from 3pm-8pm at Williams-Woodward Funeral Home, 820 Pine St. (corner of Route 59 and Pine), West Chicago, IL 60185. A mass will be held at 10 am Tuesday, January 3 at St. Mary's Church, 140 N. Oakwood Avenue, West Chicago, IL 60185. Burial will be held at a later date in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
