Hazel Reed Obituary

Hazel V. Reed of Elgin Funeral services for Hazel V. Reed, 85, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, at the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. The Rev. Mike Frantz will officiate. Born Jan. 13, 1917, in Widener, Ark., the daughter of James Lee Stewart and Jennie Lynn Kible, she passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at her home. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Mrs. Reed had been a resident of Elgin most of her life. She was employed by the Blue Moon Restaurant in Elgin, including faithfully serving the Kiwanis Club on Tuesday's for many years before retiring. The joy of her life was cooking for her family and her homemade noodles will be missed by all. Hazel will be sadly missed by her friends and neighbors. Survivors include her devoted and loving husband, Bill R. Reed, whom she married July 24, 1959; son, Don (Mary) Freeman of Elgin; daughter-in-law, Jackie Freeman of Sugar Grove; sisters, Mary Noel of South Elgin and Wanda Young of Sesser, Ill.; brother, Melvin (Marlene) Stewart of Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Betty Bork of Buffalo Grove; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. She was the loving aunt of Ruth Lynn (Frank) Kane of Elgin, Nancy (Leo) Snyder of South Elgin, Joyce (Mason) Neal of Elgin, Marcia Simpson of Elgin, Dennis (Rene) Stewart of Elgin, Nancy (Dave) Curtis of Capron, Ill. and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Jim Freeman; sisters, Myrtle Young, Eithel Reddersdorf, Burley Simpson and Jennie Mae Stewart; nephew, Robert Simpson; and her parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society. Friends may visit www.dailyherald.com/obits to express condolences and sign the guest book.
