Kenneth Koeppen Obituary
Kenneth C. Koeppen, MPFD Ret., 89, passed away August 5, 2024. Ken was born on September 7, 1934.
Beloved husband of Jacqueline (nee Steil for 67 years. Dear father of Michael (Aileen), Timothy (Lynn), Kenneth J. (Britt), Peter (Holly) Koeppen. Loving father-in-law of Karen (Paul). Cherished grandfather Paul Jr. (Marianne), Suzanne (Alex), Maria (Ben), Charles, Allison, Christopher, Rachel, Cody, Cheyenne, Connor and Brendan. Great-Grandfather of Erin, Kyra, Scarlett and Thomas. Fond brother of John Koeppen. He was preceded in death by his sons, Paul and Steven.
Ken was a longtime resident of Mount Prospect and a 35-year veteran of the Mount Prospect Fire Department. He was one of the first full time firefighters hired by the village in 1963. Ken was one of the first licensed paramedics in the State of Illinois. While with the department he was instrumental in starting both the CPR program and the Fire Cadet program. Ken was known as a legendary firefighter by his colleagues. He retired from the department in 1998 with the rank of Lieutenant.
Visitation Sunday, 2:00 - 7:00 PM at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd. at Northwest Hwy., Mt. Prospect.
Visitation will continue Monday, from 10:00 AM until Service at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, 1100 S. Linneman Rd., Mt. Prospect.
