Martin Munsen Obituary

Martin Munsen

Born on March 16, 1929, Martin Munsen of Clearwater, FL, passed away in the early morning of December 26th, in Palm Harbor, FL. He was 95 years old.

Known as Marty, his life was defined by time spent with family, friends, service to his county, and volunteering in his community.

Born in Oak Park, IL and raised in Chicago, he was a 1947 graduate of Austin High School. Upon graduation he entered the Army and ultimately retired from the Military as a First Sergeant.

While still serving in the Reserves, he started his civilian career as a carpenter. Eventually he joined the Village of Arlington Heights Building Department as an Inspector, rising up through the ranks and ultimately retired after thirty years of service as the Building Commissioner.

Retirement enabled him to spend more time focusing on his passions which included but were not limited to reading, fishing, golfing and grilling. He was an avid history buff, with special interest in the Civil War and was a member of the local Civil War Roundtable.

An advocate of giving back, he was a volunteer fire fighter, a member of the Lions Club and served as an usher for years at his church, Our Saviour's of Arlington Heights.

His accomplishments are too numerous to list but if asked, he most likely would say that building his house was at the top of his list. He lived there for years, creating many memories with family and friends.

Always humble and gracious, he was never one to brag or boast and treated everyone fairly and with kindness and respect.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, who resides at Regency Oaks in Clearwater, FL; his two daughters, Karen Blank and Kristine Munsen; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

A memorial will be held at a later date.

What a fitting tribute. You can't possibly detail all the wonderful moments of Marty's life in this memoriam. For years, Marty would bring his family to San Antonio for Christmas celebrations. My Mom and Dad would take them to Hipp's Bubble Room where they'd have steaks and cold Pearl Beer on draught.
What a grand time they had. And don't let me fail to mention that Marty could ride a motorcycle like he was in the Ringling Brothers Circus. What a Grand Man and Great Soul. Godspeed Marty Munsen.
