NORLAND WILSON Obituary

Norland Wilson of Libertyville Funeral services for Norland Wilson, 92, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the United Methodist Church, 429 Brainerd Ave., Libertyville. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home Ltd., 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville. Born March 26, 1917, in Leaf River, Ill., he passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at Libertyville Manor. Mr. Wilson was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, having served in North Africa. Norland was a graduate of the University of Illinois, Northwestern and Stafford Universities, receiving a master's degree and was a teacher at Red Oak elementary school District #112 in Highland Park, teaching Jr. High students for 33 years. He was a member of Libertyville Garden Club, Retired Teachers Association of Lake County, United Methodist Church and the Centre Club in Libertyville. He also volunteered at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, the G.E.D. program at the College of Lake County and was a legislative advocate for the University of Illinois. Norland was proud of his family and was a devout Christian, loved gardening and traveling so much he joined a group called the Friendship Force and stayed at other people's houses around the world. Surviving are his wife, Jean C. Wilson of Libertyville; stepchildren, Arno (Sarahann) Weller of Dayton, Ohio, Michael (Tina) Weller of Los Osos, Calif., Kenneth (Susan) Weller of Libertyville, Katherine (Rob) Bracke of Hot Springs, Ark., and Stephen Oller of Buffalo Grove; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his brother, Robert Wilson of Leaf River, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Myrtle Wilson and his first wife, Betty (nee Brewer) Wilson. Dear Jean,
I sent you a card this morning, which was in response to my daughter's note to me about Norland. We all share your loss, but rejoice that he is now in a place where there is no pain nor suffering. We will call you when we are in town again, probably next summer. Our prayers are with you.
