RICHARD MURRAY Obituary

Visitation for Richard K. "Dick" Murray, 90, of Grand Dominion Mundelein, formerly of Palatine, will be from 3:00 -7:00 PM on Monday, January 24, 2022, at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine. Prayers will be at 9:30 AM, Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at the funeral home and process to St. Theresa Catholic Church, 455 S. Benton Street, Palatine for the Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. The Interment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine. Richard was the son of Henry LeRoy Murray and Clara (Pliska) Murray, and was born in Chicago, August 9, 1931. He passed away at home on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Richard "Dick" leaves behind his wife, Joan Murray (nee England); six children, Rosalind (Terence) Cummings, Lisa (Jerald Wiley), Richard, Kathleen, Shannon (Dennis) Matuch and Megan (Bill) McGovern; eleven grandchildren, Erin (Daniel) Simpson, Shannon Cummings (Sachleen Sandhu), James Cummings, Justin (Tanica) Wiley, Joseph Wiley, Jason Wiley, Luke Terpstra (Anna Hall), Autumn Matuch, Hunter Matuch, William "Liam" McGovern, and Hannah McGovern; great-grandchildren, Sean and Evan Simspon; Kieron Cummings-Sandhu; Christian, Justice, Destiny Wiley; Oscar and Felix Terpstra; and his nephews, Colin (Kimberly) Murray and Len Buss. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bryce (Mina) Murray; his niece, Susan Buss and nephew, Craig Murray. Richard "Dick" has had a lifelong interest in the history of American Automobile. For the past 45+ years of his life, he had been a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) and served as a chapter officer for many years, and was a member of the Illinois Region AACA board. He could be found at many local cruise nights during the summer months. He enjoyed working with wood and could be found in his garage hours of the day. Richard "Dick" was a member of St. Theresa Parish in Palatine, before moving to Mundelein in 2015, where Joan and Dick soon discovered the Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe at Marytown in Libertyville and adopted it as their weekly place to celebrate Mass. Dick and his wife Joan enjoyed more than 25 years retired from their jobs and spent a good deal of those years traveling and visiting all 50 states, nine foreign countries and numerous Caribbean Islands. He never tired of planning new trips, spending hours with maps and tour books. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
