A great surprise for a little girl when the grandpa she hardly knew showed up one day at her house with tons of gifts for her little brother and her. It is a memory that I have never forgotten, and treasure since it is one of the few I was blessed to have with him.

He was a great dad! His stories were the stuff of legend. He was always patient and supportive no matter what the situation. He encouraged my interests. He was always there to cheer me on at a power lifting meet or a high school football game. On many occasions he went above and beyond to help me with my silly requests such as driving all the way to Highland Park, Illinois to see the original Batmobile from the Batman TV Series, finding the perfect World War Two army helmet or accompanying me on a grade school field to to a strip mine to search for fossils. He taught me the finer points of photography and how to be better organized in high school. Robert Deiker served his country in the U.S. Air force during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was also a great father to my brother Ryan and my sister Stephanie! I will miss our talks and his sense of humor.
