SYLVIA J. FREY

1941 - 2014

MUNDELEIN - Sylvia J. Frey, age 72, passed away on April 12, 2014, at home, after a lengthy illness. Sylvia was born August 21, 1941, at Tifton, GA. Her early years were spent in Quitman, GA, eventually moving to Columbia, S.C. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1959, that same year she joined the Navy. She was a Vietnam era veteran, serving six years on active duty as a medical x-ray technician. On September 5, 1964, she married her husband, Tom Frey, at the Naval Base Chapel, Philadelphia, PA. After leaving the Navy, Sylvia was a stay at home mother, raising her three sons. Later on, she worked as an x-ray technician, CNA, and as a retail sales associate at several area department stores. Sylvia loved country music, her favorites being Alan Jackson and Kenny Chesney. She also loved bowling, flower arranging, fixing things and sewing. She excelled at all she did. You might say she was a tinker, a tailor, and a U.S. Navy sailor. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Hazel LeFiles; sister, Carol Bobe; and brother, George F. LeFiles. She is survived by her husband, Tom; sons, Joseph Frey of Mundelein, James Frey of New York, NY and Patrick (Tiffani) Frey of Wonder Lake; brothers, Eddie H. (Jo) LeFiles of Pensacola, FL and Jlee (Lea) LeFiles of Laughlin, NV. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, at Kristan Funeral Home, P.C., 219 W. Maple, Mundelein.
