Valentine B. McGowan

Val B. McGowan of Streamwood Prayers for Val B. McGowan, 88, formerly of Downers Grove, will be said at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, at Countryside Funeral Home, 1640 Greenmeadows Blvd. (at Barrington Road), Streamwood/Schaumburg. Mass will follow at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church. Born April 9, 1914, in Chicago, he died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at St. Alexius Medical Center. Interment will be in Assumption Cemetery, Winfield. Mr. McGowan retired from Commonwealth Edison on Feb. 28, 1977. He was also a retired lieutenant colonel of the Army Corps of Engineers and a World War II Army veteran. Val is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alyce McGowan (nee O'Brien); children, Patricia (Jack) Fehlandt of Streamwood, Philip (Peggy) McGowan of Grayslake and Robert (Nancy) McGowan of Barrington; grandchildren, Valerie (Ed) Dalka, William (Chris) Husfield, James O'Brien, Carrie McGowan, and Michelle, Erin and Linnea McGowan; great-grandchildren, Stephen Dalka, Elisha Dalka and Tyler Husfield; brother, Charles A. (Bernadette) McGowan; sister, Antoinette Hilsenbeck; and sisters-in-law, Marge Viasicak, Frances McIntosh and Ann Hamilton. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
