She was born on December 15, 1954 in Franklin, Indiana to the late Donald and Mildred (Burton) Burton. She is survived by her husband, Jackie Lawson; daughter, Kelly (Brian) Chastain; step-daughters, Amy (Jorge) Arteaga and Nancy (David) Wood; granddaughter, Alexis Arteaga and grandson, Spencer Wood. She is also survived by four siblings, Arcena (Larry) Burton, Donnie (Mary) Burton, Troy (Paula) Burton and Tina (Jonathan) Julbert; step-brother, Stanley Curry, step-sister, Jackie Crawhorn, several nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family and friends.
Devela enjoyed cooking and creating her own recipes. She also enjoyed spending time with family, especially all of her nieces and nephews. To them, she was their Aunt Dee Dee.
Devela was retired from Johnson County Government where she worked in the Maintenance Department.
A celebration of Devela's life will be held on Friday, August 1st, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin with Visitation on Friday, August 1st from 11:00 a.m. to time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Nineveh Cemetery in Nineveh, Indiana.
