James Swallows Obituary

James "Jimmy" Swallows of Edinburgh, Indiana, left this world on September 26, 2025, most likely aggravating someone on his way out and making a new friend he hadn't met yet. Born July 8, 1966, to Judy Agee and Arlis Swallows, in Columbia, Kentucky; Jimmy lived a life that proved two things: he never met a stranger, and he never passed up a chance to mess with someone.

On December 7, 1985, he married the love of his life, Tammy Bennett, and together they raised two children who kept him busy, Heather Swallows-Angel and Nicholas Swallows. Jimmy was "Papa" to six grandchildren-Ayden, Olivia, Avery, Adryanna, Owen, and Cooper-who were his pride and joy. He was happiest in the stands, whether it was at a little league field or cheering on the Indianapolis Colts.

Jimmy is survived by his wife Tammy, his children and grandchildren, and a crew of siblings who loved him dearly: Andy Rucker (Christy), Samantha Garrett (Bob), Jacqueline Dinn, Tammy Bryant, Jennifer Hagan (Travis)and Jerry Swallows. He is also remembered by countless friends, because Jimmy had a way of turning "hello" into a lifelong connection.

Those who knew Jimmy will remember his playful spirit, and his uncanny ability to make anyone feel welcome-whether you wanted to or not. He taught his family that humor can heal most hurts, and that you're never too busy to show up for the people you love.

Services will be filled with both tears and laughter, just as Jimmy would have wanted. In his honor, the family encourages you to share a story, a joke, or a memory-preferably the kind that makes people laugh so hard they forget for a moment to be sad. After all, Jimmy wouldn't have it any other way.

A funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Stacey Tucker at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at

Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church in Edinburgh. Calling will be on Wednesday, October 1 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the church and from 10:00 AM until time of service. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.

Jimmy’s love for his family was steady and strong, but it was his lifelong love for Tammy that I always admired most. The way he loved her was inspiring, and it will remain a beautiful part of his legacy. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.

I´m going to miss you dearly uncle Jimmy. You were such a great man, and the best uncle anyone could ask for. No matter what I was going through in life, you never once had a bad word to say to me, you always treated me with love and respect. I wish family life and adulthood in general would have granted me much more time to have spent with you but that´s not how that worked unfortunately , I´ll always remember the great times we had together, and will always keep the beautiful memories I have of you close to my heart, I love you uncle Jimmy, I´ll see you on the other side!
