Lt. Col. Joseph M. Zurlo III, USMC Ret.

Lt. Col. Joseph M. Zurlo III USMC, Ret., formerly of West Chester Lieutenant Colonel Joseph M. Zurlo, III, USMC, Ret., passed away Jan. 23, 2014, in Sterling, Va. at the age of 54. Joe was born in Bethesda, Md. and raised in West Chester. He attended the United States Naval Academy in 1977 where he earned a BS in engineering. After graduation and Marine Corps Commissioning in 1981, he was stationed in Jacksonville, N.C. followed by a tour at Marine Corps Air Base Iwakuni, Japan. After an assignment at Marine Corps Air Base Tustin, Calif., where he earned a MS in systems management from USC, he left active duty in 1989 and remained in the Marine Corps Reserve until retiring in 2001. For the past twenty four years, Joe worked at Logistics Management Institute, most recently as the program director of Systems Development Group. Joe was an avid athlete who enjoyed baseball and soccer, as well as running marathons. He was also a scuba dive-master. He is survived by his beloved wife of twenty eight years, Terri Townsend Zurlo; his two daughters, Marie Teres and Michelle Christine of Sterling, Va.; his parents, Joseph M. Zurlo, Jr. and Carol Zurlo, both of West Chester; his brother, Glen Zurlo of Millersville, Md.; and sisters, Dina Silver of Springfield Va., Jaren Zurlo of West Chester and Kara Delaney of Marstons Mills, Mass. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon, Va. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, in the main chapel at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
