Kenneth Klunk Obituary

Kenneth E. Klunk Sr. of Downingtown Kenneth E. Klunk Sr. of Downingtown passed away on Jan. 6, 2015 at his home with his family at his side. He was born July 6, 1944 in West Chester, to the late Edward C. Klunk, Sr. and Mildred Klunk, and was the cherished husband of the late Barbara W. Klunk, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage. Together they raised four children. Ken was a graduate of Downingtown Senior High School and president of the class of 1963. His professional career was focused on the paper packing industry, and he served in many capacities including President, Simplex Paper Box, Inc. and Vice President of Unipak, Inc. In his retirement he enjoyed working at Wegman's in Downingtown. Ken was enthusiastically involved in many community activities. He served as a West Bradford Township Supervisor; Board Member of the West Bradford Fire Company; and as an active volunteer with Boy Scouts Troop 52 and Cub Pack 152. Ken was one of the original founders of both West Bradford Youth Athletics (WBYA) and Downingtown Area Recreation Consortium (DARC) and served for several years on the Board of Directors of both. Coaching youth sports teams, refereeing, field maintenance and more were also part of his volunteering efforts with these organizations. He also enjoyed all the activities of his children and grandchildren, and was always their biggest fan cheering them on. He loved going to the beach and traveling, especially with his wife Barb. They also enjoyed many seasons of football games and tailgating at Penn State. Ken is survived by his four children: Kenneth E. Klunk, Jr. (Jean); Karen Klunk Boyd (John); Kelly Klunk-Thompson; and Brian M. Klunk (Serra); and six grandchildren: Stephanie Klunk; Peter Kissinger; Caleb, Rhiannon & Avery Thompson; and Dekker Klunk. He also is survived by his siblings: Ruth Ann Graveno; James "Chunky" Klunk; William "Tadpole" Klunk; and Susan Fleck. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brothers: Edward C. Klunk, Jr. and John M. Klunk. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, at St. Joseph Church, 338 Manor Ave., Downingtown, where family and friends may call from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Downingtown. My condolences to the entire family on the loss of Mr. Klunk (as I knew him). He was a very kind man and a genuine class act. I first met him when I was a scout in Troop 52 during the 70's (hi Kenny). He was partially responsible for me attaining the Eagle rank.
Since that time, we would cross paths a number of times. He always called me by name and would ask how I and my family were doing.
We will miss him. God bless all of you!

My deepest and sincere sympathies to Kenny's family. I was privileged to have worked with Kenny at Downingtown Paper/Sonoco Products Co. on Boot Road from 1969 until the mid-70's when I transferred to the Marietta, GA, plant. He was a great mentor, a genuine person with a contagious laugh. RIP, Kenny

Our deepest sympathies to the entire family. Brenda and I will always cherish our memories of Penn State tailgating with Ken and Barb and all their family and friends who also became our friends. Ken and I developed nicknames for each other at the tailgates. He called me Dr Meckley so I retaliated calling him Professor Klunk. Whenever he would call me, I would always answer the phone 'Professor'. I will also fondly remember Larry Gensemer, Doug Cox and my self entertaining Ken on a few yearly golf outings. Ken, you will be greatly missed by your loving family and many friends, who have many endearing memories of you and Barb. Your PSU buddy, Allan (Webby) Meckley.

We have fond memories of Ken when we lived in West Bradford. He was a wonderful baseball coach for our daughter, Kathy and we always loved his teasing. We were saddened by the passing of Barbara, now of Ken, too. He left a great legacy for his family. His love for his family and community was very evident.
Sincerely,
Al and Pauline Menger
