Alexander Danko Obituary

Alexander Danko

Alex, son of Michael and Elizabeth, passed away in his 91st year. Born Sep 15, 1933 in Montreal QC he passed away on Dec 17, 2023 in Maple Ridge BC with son, Shawn and daughter, Sheri by his side.

Alex leaves behind granddaughter Alexa, daughter-in-law Lana, son-in-law Scott, grandson Blair, granddaughters Alana and April and newest addition great-grandson Harvey.

Alex grew up in the Colonial and Prince Arthur neighbourhood of Montreal and attended the Catholic High School of Montreal. He went on to a career with Clarke Transport and then in 1982 packed up the family and moved to Toronto to open a coffee franchise. Alex genuinely loved to volunteer and did so through coaching hockey and youth sports in Westmount QC, cooking in community kitchens and the Hungarian United Church. When Alex moved west to BC he settled into his new home at Haney Pioneer Village in Maple Ridge where his neighbours became his extended family and an integral part of his life.

He was a kind and thoughtful man. Those that knew him always said he had an infectious smile and would light up any room he walked in to. He will be missed by so many.

There will be a family gathering in Montreal, in the spring of 2024, where he will lay at rest with his parents at Mount Royal Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Alex would appreciate contributions to the Hungarian United Church of Montreal - 50 Graham Boulevard, Town of Mount Royal, QC, CANADA, H3P 2C1.

Your Favorite Nurse

December 20, 2023

Mr. Danko, you didnt know this but while you were in our hospital, we heard you laughing with your roommates. Your laugh was so contagious, that you made a room full of nurses laugh while we tried to write our reports. We needed that. Thank you so much for that.

And thank you for helping me get through my day when I needed it the most. I remember the first time you called me called trouble maker. It was 3am in the morning. I was trying to be as quiet as I can while I come and check on you. As I peeked through those curtains, there you were eyes wide open and said "hey trouble maker". That was hilarious.

I will miss you Mr. Danko. Thank you again for your kind words and for making me laugh. Your son and daughter are such wonderful people. May you rest in peace Mr. Danko.
