Annie Moser Obituary

Annie Ruth "Ann" Moser, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and educator, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, in Bartlett, Tennessee. She was born on October 26, 1931, in Tippah County, Mississippi, and grew up in Union County. Ann graduated second in her class from Center High School and went on to attend Wood Junior College, where she began her teacher training and was honored as "Miss Wood Junior College." She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and later completed a master's degree from Memphis State University. Her teaching career began in Clarksdale, Mississippi, and continued in Memphis at Colonial Elementary. After marrying Oscar Moser and welcoming two children, Ann paused her career to focus on raising her family. The family spent eight cherished years in Signal Mountain, Tennessee, before returning to Memphis, where Ann resumed teaching in several Memphis City elementary schools. She found her true home at Sherwood Elementary, where she spent the longest part of her career. Ann had a deep love for teaching and took great joy in nurturing young minds. A devoted member of Bartlett United Methodist Church for over 50 years, Ann formed lifelong friendships and was an active participant in the Builder's Sunday School class. She remained an avid reader throughout her life and enjoyed being part of a book club in retirement, where friendships blossomed beyond the pages. She also found joy in gardening, playing bridge, and traveling with Oscar to destinations including Alaska, Canada, and Europe. Ann was known for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering support for those she loved. She was often the first to reach out, checking in on family and friends and offering comfort and encouragement. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Lilla Smith; her brother, Herman Smith Jr.; and her sisters, Polly Foster and Pat Cole. She is survived by her husband of more than 60 years, Oscar Moser; her children, Bridget Clark (Matt) and Tom Moser (Deanna); her sister, Jean Jernigan (John); her brother, Bob Smith; and her grandsons, Hayden, Grayson, and Brendan. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. A service to celebrate Ann's life will be held at 2:30 PM on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
