Barbara Bomprezzi Obituary

Barbara Jean Knighten Bomprezzi, 88, of Lakeland, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

Barbara was born in Monroe, Louisiana one of 3 children born to the late Julius & Wellie Knighten. She went to Laurel, Mississippi and then finished in Fayette County, Tennessee. She earned her Tennessee Real Estate Brokers License and Realtor. Also, she studied computer science at State Tech. Barbara became the Ambassador for Lakeland, Tennessee Belz Factory Outlet Mall from 1995 - 2001. She was a member of the Shelby County Republican Party and ran for office for the Shelby County School Board. Barbara was an avid gardener who in the 1970's was also a member of the Frayser Garden Club. Barbara was a member of the Lakeland Lions Club and charter member of the Lakeland Civic Club.

During her children's school years she was very active in their lives, the PTA and participating at any event the kids needed. She loved to crochet, and was very artistic including having her own kiln to make her own ceramics.

Over the years she was a member of Thrifthaven Baptist Church of Memphis, Bethel Assembly of God of Memphis & Bartlett, Brunswick Baptist Church and lastly attended Bellevue Baptist Church.

Along with her parents Barbara was preceded in death by her siblings Grover E. Knighten, Patricia A. Flores, and Jack & Jewell Niten.

Her memory lives on with her husband of 68 years, James P. Bomprezzi, Sr.; children Commissioner Connie (Jim) McCarter, Jim Bomprezzi, Jr.; and Debbie (Andy) Carrigan; and her granddaughter Amanda Bomprezzi.

Family and friends will gather on Sunday, August 31 & Monday, September 1 from five o'clock until seven o'clock with funeral services being held on Tuesday, September 2 beginning at ten o'clock in the morning all at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, Tennessee 38133.

Anyone unable to attend Tuesday's service at ten o'clock in the morning is invited to watch the livestream on the Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Garden's webpage at www.memphisfuneralhome.net


Any memorial in Barbara's honor should be sent to Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare Hospice Residence, Baptist Hospice, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Memphis Humane Society.
