Bev spent the last 2 months fighting courageously until the Lord called her home on October 3, 2024. Her children include Jocelyn Johnson of Cordova, TN, Aloysius (Tama) Johnson of Elmont, NY; Sharon (Dennis) Andrews of Valley Stream, NY; and Ronald (Yanice) Johnson of Brandon FL, There are nine grandchildren: Allana Wherry (Jocelyn Johnson); Marcus, Kevin, Kyle (Al & Tama Johnson); Danielle, Colby Andrews and Brianna (Phillip) Tavada (Sharon & Dennis Andrews; Jasmine and Jada (Ronald Johnson); and 5 great grandchildren (Mason, Maliah, Tamela, Taniyah and Solana Johnson). Bev leaves behind a brother, Solomon (Adoracion) Edwards of Whittier, CA. As well as numerous nieces (her favorite niece-Tracyanne McCrorey), nephews and cousins. Bev is preceded in death by her husband (Clement C. Johnson), parents, brothers (Chatman Jr, Emanuel, Calvin, and Alvin Edwards), and sister (Doris Dodd). Bev attended Kingston High School in Kingston, NY. After graduation, she attended Memorial School of Nursing in Albany, NY where she received her diploma in nursing. She then went on to Hampton Institute (University) and received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. She wasn't finished there, she then went on to obtain her Master of Arts degree from Columbia University in NY. Bev was a big proponent of higher education. She would go to any lengths to encourage and support higher education in the family. She started her nursing career at Presbyterian Hospital in New York. When her husband retired from the NYPD, they decided to move to Port Charlotte, FL. She realized retirement was not for her, so she became the Director of Surgical ICU and Progressive Care Units at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, FL from 1990-1995. After working in FL for 5 years, she took a Director of Nursing, Cardiovascular and Intensive Care Services in Greenville, SC from 1995-2001. She missed Florida so much that her and Clem moved to Gainesville, FL where she worked at University of Florida- Shands Healthcare System (2001-2003). Living and working in heart of Gator Country was a big deal since Jocelyn attended the University of Tennessee. Wearing UT shirts in UF territory always sparked spirited conversations, especially during football season. They had some property in Palm Coast, Florida where a lot of their friends from NY had retired, so her and Clem moved to Palm Coast, FL. She then became the Director of Nursing at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, FL. After leaving Halifax, Bev became a Travel Nurse Consultant. Her first stop was Wisconsin where she resided for a few months, then she landed in Festus, MO. She resided in Missouri for a few years and retired as a Chief Nursing Officer from Jefferson Memorial Hospital and moved back to Palm Coast. After a few more years, Bev and Clem decided to move to Memphis, TN to be closer to Jocelyn and Allana. Bev was an avid reader. You could always find her reading a good book stretched out on the couch. She also loved to travel. This past year she took a road trip to NY and then to Florida in the same week in March. Jocelyn and Allana made her go to Epcot for the first time since Jocelyn was little. Then this past summer she spent an entire week in NY with her favorite niece (Tracy McCrorey) and went to several broadway shows, Showtime at the Apollo, Tea Around Town tour, and went to the NY Liberty game. They had a ball. If shopping was a sport, she would've been a gold medalist. She loved to shop and her motto always was "I'm worth it!". Bev was blessed with a number of life long friends who supported her each step along the way. Thank you for the support, then and now and know that "You are worth it!" Serenity Funeral Home, Tel.
