Camille Black Obituary

Camille Gattuso Black entered eternal life peacefully after a 2.5 year battle with liver cancer. Born in Osceola, Arkansas and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Camille was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jimmy Black; daughters Laurie Roberts and Becky Lewis; sons-in-law Spencer Roberts and Frank Lewis; and her beloved grandchildren Allese, Lauren, and Jennings Lewis, and Gabe, Stephen, and Hannah Roberts. She also leaves behind her brothers Frankie Gattuso and Paul Gattuso, sisters-in-law Donna Gattuso and Patty Gattuso, and many extended family and friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Vita B. Gattuso, and her brother Dominic Gattuso. She is also preceded in death by her in- laws L. J. and Catherine Black, Linda Black and Patsy Dumas and her uncles Sam Bomarito and Paul Bomarito. Camille became a nurse in 1968, working at Baptist and St. Joseph's Hospitals before choosing to stay home and raise her girls in 1973. In 1999, she returned to the workforce with the Shelby County Health Department and later found joy caring for little ones at the St. Louis Catholic Church Mother's Day Out program. Known to her grandchildren and to all of their friends as "Muzzie," Camille was their biggest cheerleader. She never missed a game, school event, or chance to be at an event. She was kind, funny, and very thoughtful-always putting others before herself. She was fashionably late to almost everything and somehow remembered every detail about everyone and everything. Camille cared faithfully for her own mother, Vita, until her passing in 2018. Her legacy is one of love, laughter, service, and devotion. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 25, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 26, at 11:00 AM, also at Holy Rosary. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Methodist Hospice House in her memory.
