David Ferguson Obituary

David Eugene Ferguson passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 19, 2022. David was preceded in death by his sister, Rita Ferguson Crocker, and his father, William Eugene Ferguson.

Visitation will be at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar on Tuesday, August 23 from 5:00 until 6:30 PM. A funeral service will be at St. George's Episcopal Church on Wednesday, August 24 at 11:00 AM.

David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan Peek Ferguson, and three daughters, Hollye (Steve) Stigler, Leigh Ferguson and Catherine (Kyle) Conger. He also leaves behind his mother, Rita Joyce Ferguson. David's seven grandchildren provided such joy for him. Abby Stigler, Wallace Conger, Finley Conger, Ruthie Stigler, Amelie Stigler, Maeve Conger and Madeleine Conger knew David as Dibi, and they loved him very much. David's extended family includes many aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and brothers- and sisters-in law, including Don Crocker. David died because of pancreatic cancer, but he persevered through his faith in a God who sustained him with His peace and grace. He was always grateful for the uncompromising care of his most dedicated nurse, Susan.

David was born on November 13, 1952, and his family lived in Raleigh, where he graduated from Bartlett High School. David attended Memphis State University and received a Bachelor of Science, Master of Public Administration and Juris Doctorate. In his career, David served the people of Shelby County working as an administrator, lawyer and Magistrate at the Juvenile Court. He believed his work to be his calling and was inspired by the Scripture, "And Jesus, said, Let the children come unto me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven," (Matthew 19:14). At the Juvenile Court, David worked with George Blancett and Herb Lane, who became great friends sharing lunches, golf games, and support even at the end of his life. In his retirement, David enjoyed golf, travel, playing the piano, composing music and spending time with his family. He and Susan are members of St. George's Episcopal Church in Germantown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to St. George's Episcopal Church, St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Greenville, SC, or MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Susan and family, we are very sorry to learn about David´s passing. We do know he is healed now, is having a grand reunion and seeing Jesus by sight and no longer by faith. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you as you celebrate his life over the coming days.
