David Heatherly Obituary

David Lester Heatherly, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Cordova, TN, on January 6, 2025, surrounded by love and family.

Born on February 9, 1945, in Geneva, NY, David was the beloved son of Lester Issac Heatherly and Gertrude Jane Johnson (Heatherly). He attended Geneva High School before proudly serving in Vietnam as a Specialist (SP4) in the U.S. Army, where he specialized in Crypto Communications.

David had a fulfilling career as a construction projector designer and planner, contributing his expertise to Zellner Construction, Vance Construction, and his own company, EB Construction. He retired from construction in 2010 and, alongside his wife Kathy, started and successfully ran an online retail store. His work and entrepreneurial spirit left a lasting impact on numerous projects in Memphis and beyond.

A passionate golfer, David was a member of Seneca Lake Country Club (NY), Woodstock Country Club (TN), Colonial Country Club (TN), and Stonebridge Country Club (TN). He will be remembered for his big smile, quick wit, and incredible sense of humor that brightened every room he entered. David also had a lifelong love of sports. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and a dedicated supporter of the New York Yankees, cheering for his teams with enthusiasm throughout his life.

David is predeceased by his parents, Lester Issac Heatherly and Gertrude Jane Johnson (Heatherly), his brother, Thomas Joseph Heatherly, and his loving fur baby, Golden Retriever Jake. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Heatherly (Guererri), to whom he was married for 55 wonderful years; his sons David Heatherly and Christopher Heatherly; his daughter-in-law Kristen Heatherly (Cleary); his sister-in-law Lorraine Heatherly; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

David's legacy is reflected in his significant contributions to the Memphis community, including the development of Memphis hospitals such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the redesign of Liberty Land amusement park, Hickory Hill Mall, and several athletic clubs. His dedication to these projects has left a mark that will be cherished by many. David also contributed to the construction of several local churches, further exemplifying his commitment to his community.

In honor of David's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral. Donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I'm so sorry to hear this, I shared an office with David in the 70's for several years. I can still remember the hilarious race horse breeding stories. Looking back, David was probably the nicest and most affable people I've ever know. A great loss, RIP.

Really sorry to hear about David Heathery passing away. What an awesome guy he was. I knew him from the good ole "Woodstock Hills Country Club" days. He would come out a few days a week to hit practice balls and get lessons from Pro David Hallford. I can still hear that, what I call "Yankee" accent. One of the nicest people anyone could ever meet. My condolences to his wife and entire family.
