Don Earl Rogers, 88 years old was born on April 25, 1936 in Union City, Tennessee to Thelma and Earl Rogers. Don passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024 after a valiant battle with cancer. Don graduated from Union City High School in 1954 and Memphis State in 1958. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order where he made many lifelong friends. After college, Don joined the airborne division of the Navy and loved to share stories about his time living on Midway Island. After Don was discharged from the Navy in 1972 he went on to pursue his business career. Don was the owner of Rogers Children Shoes which had two locations one in the Southland Mall and the other in East Memphis. Don sold this company to his childhood best friend Bill Burnett and went on to begin a long successful career as a Manufacturer's Representative for numerous lines.
Don had a charismatic personality and loved life to the fullest. He will be remembered chewing on one of his cigars as he enjoyed many rounds of golf with his friends at Whitehaven Country Club. He was also an avid sports fan and loved his Memphis Tigers. Don could often be found sitting in the high school stands cheering on his grandchildren in their many different sporting events. Don loved his friends and family up until the end of his life and was always bringing smiles and laughter to those around him.
Don was preceded in death by his parents as well as his wife, Linda Matthews Rogers. Don is survived by his sister, Alice Britt and his wife, Anne Clarke Rogers whom he married in 2002. Don and Anne Clarke are founding members of the Redeemer Evangelical Church in Germantown, Tennessee. Don and Anne Clark moved to Hernando, Mississippi where they became very active members of the community, making many friends and creating a beautiful life together.
Don is also survived by his loving children- Jennifer Rogers Phillips (Gene), Jeff Rogers (Tina), and Allen Truitt (Andrea). His grandchildren- Bridges Phillips (Lauren), Mary Kathryn Harris (Forbes), Olivia Phillips.
Caroline Rogers, Matthew Rogers, Jack Rogers, Mary Morgan Truitt, and Trey Truitt. Great grandchildren- Palmer Phillips, Bridges Phillips and Heath Harris.
Services for Don will be on Tuesday, October 22 at Redeemer Evangelical Church- 3100 S. Houston Levee Road, Germantown, TN 38139. Visitation -10:00 -11:00 – Celebration of Life at 11:00 followed by his burial at Forest Hill South Funeral Home-2545 E. Holmes Road, Memphis, TN 38118 at 1:00.
