Jimmy C. Beck Sr.

1935 - 2024

Jimmy C. Beck, Sr., 88, beloved husband and father, passed away on April 22 after an illness.

He was born on November 6, 1935 in Toccoppola, Mississippi to Vernon and Pearl Beck and was raised in Oxford. He attended University High School, then college at the University of Mississippi before enlisting in the US Army and shipping off to Europe. He humbly served his flag and country while stationed in Werthein, Germany, where he worked as a medical supply clerk. This was an exciting and fun period of his life as he travelled around Europe with a buddy in a Volkswagon Beetle. Upon his return, he met the love his life, Barbara Wilson Beck, his wife of sixty-two years. They had a beautiful life together in Memphis, raising their two sons, Jim Jr. and Gary.

Barbara was from a strong Christian family and soon after they met, Jimmy became a Christian as well and they raised their family in the church. Jimmy worked for Allstate Insurance Company for thirty-four years. His sense of humor and good nature made him a natural salesman, winning him numerous sales awards. This is also where he created friendships that remained for the rest of his life.

Jimmy and Barbara loved to travel as a couple and with friends and had numerous adventures in the US and abroad. He had an uncanny memory for jokes and was the quintessential storyteller, often leaving us in tears from laughing so hard. He was a giver of humor, friendship and love. Over the course of his life, he donated 42 gallons to LifeBlood, touching countless lives.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife Barbara, son Jim, Jr. (Michelle), grandsons Ethan, Jack, and Will, his sister Mary Parks, along with a host of wonderful extended family and friends.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his beloved son Gary, his parents Vernon and Pearl, his brothers Vernon and David, and sisters Juanita and Betty.

A private family service will be held on May 4, 2024 at Germantown Plantation.
