1949 - 2025

Lawrence Donald Anderson of Memphis, TN passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 12, 2025.Larry, or "L.A." as he was known to his family and friends, was born on September 17, 1949, in Fargo, North Dakota (because, as he would say, he wanted to be near his mother). He loved the Lord and recently re-joined Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he previously sang in the choir. He could also be found in Walmart singing "I Love to Tell the Story" to anyone within earshot. He was a graduate of Trezevant High School and Memphis State University. Larry is rejoicing in Heaven with his parents, Marian and Donald Anderson, his sister Linda, his brother Dale, and his lifelong friend Larry "Hamm" Johnson. He is survived by his daughter, Lauren Anderson Sullivan (Shannon); two grandchildren, Cameron Brittain (Lauren) and Juliet Wheeler (Patrick); two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Susan Stockman and Betty Evans; sister-in-law, Nancy Anderson; dear cousins, nieces, and nephews; former spouse of 23 years, Mary Anderson; and his beloved dachshund, Jesse James. Larry leaves a legacy of an endless supply of Anderson humor and stories of his youth, which undoubtedly include making memories while camping, traveling, cheering on the Memphis Tigers, boating on the Mississippi River and Greers Ferry Lake, countless lifelong friendships, and his dynamic career as a repo man. His great-grandchildren, Finn and Aeris Brittain, will have to rely on family lore to understand what it meant to have a grandpa who once could water-ski with no hands, wearing nothing but a bandana and Speedos. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church 6325 Raleigh LaGrange Rd in Memphis on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM with visitation at 10:00 and light refreshments afterward. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church and School.
