Mary Mildred Clunan

1925 - 2022

Mary Mildred Klinger Clunan, 97 of Memphis, TN, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 31, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Mildred was born in Desoto, MO on May 7, 1925, to Russell and Florence Berry. She was the oldest of 4 children, two sisters Virginia and Anna Mae, and brother Joe who along with her parents have all preceded her in death.

The Berry family moved to St. Louis where Mildred grew up, graduated from Nerinx Hall and married Paul Theodore Klinger in 1943. Together they had 6 children Larry Klinger (Judy), Ron Klinger (Glynda), Steve Klinger (Margie), Ruth Pickett (Paul), Shirley Verhine Mercer (John) and Nancy Bushnell (Jim), 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Early in their married life, they were transferred to Memphis for her husband's job at Hunter Fan, so Mildred lived most of her adult life in Memphis. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Klinger in 1968. Mildred's greatest joy was raising her large family and providing a significant loving presence in their lives.

She was a devout Catholic and prayer warrior for all of her family and friends. Throughout her life she was an avid seamstress who enjoyed making clothes for her children and grandchildren. Later in life, Mildred worked as a teacher's assistant in the Memphis City Schools.

She married Charles Clunan in 1978 and was a devoted wife and homemaker. Charles preceded her in death in 1993.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 12pm at the Memorial Park Funeral Home with internment following at 1pm in Memorial Park Garden of Meditation East, then a private family gathering in the funeral home's Event Hall. A memorial mass will be held at a later date.

The family requests any memorials be made to Autism Resources of the Mid-South or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
