Ruth Cecilia Chandler

Ruth Cecilia (West) Chandler of Memphis passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025 at Ave Maria Nursing Home at the age of 99 after a long journey with dementia. Until the end, she maintained her love of family and friends and expressed gratitude for her long life. Cecilia was blessed with three children – Cecilia Mosley Lipscomb, Karen Chandler Johnson, and Colie Edward Chandler, Jr. and four grandchildren – Christina Godwin formerly Lipscomb, Wayne Lipscomb, Justin Johnson, and Caitlin Johnson. She was preceded in death by her daughter Cecilia, and her husbands, Frank Mosley and Colie Chandler. Cecilia was a conscientious bookkeeper in her work life, but her real passion was nurturing beautiful flowers in the family garden and making a loving home for people and pets, famously including a wild turtle named "Butch!" Cecilia deeply valued her faith, actively attending Woodland Presbyterian Church for over 30 years, and frequently participated in her women's circle. Cecilia also served for many years as a Girl Scout leader. Cecilia courageously adjusted to the challenges that life gave her. Having been a church visitor to others, she particularly relished her friend's visits in her life's last season and being a cheerful resident to others. Her family will always remember Cecilia's welcoming smile and affirmations of love. For her loved ones, she truly embodied the adage of a life well lived.
