Tim Shelton

Since Tim Shelton met Jesus face to face on October 8, social media and news outlets have been overwhelmed with stories from people whose lives were influenced by Tim. As people have paid tribute, they've shared experiences of being shepherded, counseled, loved unconditionally, and encouraged in times of need.

Growing up in East Tennessee as a long-time Volunteer fan, he chose to pursue a degree in marketing from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Upon graduation, he began a career in sales that lasted 10 years.

Tim and Susan met while attending Bellevue Baptist Church and were married in 1998. In 2001, they became parents, welcoming their first son on January 25, and they added four more boys in the coming years.

In 2002, leaving behind a successful career in the corporate world, Tim joined the staff of Bellevue Baptist Church, and in 2007, he earned a Master of Divinity from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. Throughout his 21-year career at Bellevue, Tim cared for singles, couples, families, children, and everyone else who crossed his path. His most recent title at Bellevue was Pastor of Groups Leadership and Family Life, a role in which he shepherded hundreds of families toward personal relationships with Jesus.

Of all of Tim's ministry investments, he knew his greatest responsibility was within his home. He humbly discipled his boys in biblical truth and led his home in the wisdom of the Lord. He cherished Susan, and on October 17, the couple would've celebrated 25 years of marriage.

Tim genuinely, consistently, and plainly exuded the fruit of the Spirit, which testified to his personal relationship with Jesus. Because of that testimony, those who love him can grieve with hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13)-a hope that is firm and secure (Hebrews 6:14).

Tim is survived by his wife, Susan; his five sons, Jack (22), Gray (21), Sam (19), Drew (17), and John David (11); his brother, Todd Shelton; his parents, Bob and Judy Shelton; Susan's mother and stepfather, Frank and Janelle Hair; Susan's father, Ronnie Stephens; Susan's brother, Ron (Debbie) Stephens; and Susan's sister, Sandi (Craig) Vincent.
