Ola Parle Obituary

Beloved mother, sister, grandmother, Ola Bernice Bethell Parle (Barney) of Sun City, Arizona, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2006 at age 92. She was the daughter of Wesley Winfield Bethell and Ola Evelyn Lanphere Bethell. Barney was born in Santa Barbara, California on September 23, 1913, the first of three daughters. Barney attended school in Santa Barbara, California. She went to Occidental College in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara State College. She met and married her husband, Jack, while in college in 1935. They raised two children while moving 22 different times following Jack¹s career as a petroleum engineer with various oil companies. She moved to Sun City, Arizona, from San Clemente, California in 1986 after being widowed in 1984. Barney played excellent tennis in her youth and took up golf at age 50. She was proud of being an octogenarian golf champion in Sun City, Arizona. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She set an example of a life long love of learning. Barney loved to travel and enjoyed the beauty of nature, especially the ocean, the desert and beautiful sunsets. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Dorothy DeRoze and her beloved husband of 49 years, Jack Parle. Barney is survived by her sister, Audrey Underwood of Oregon; son, Dr. Roy Parle (wife, Karen) of Simi Valley, California; daughter Lora Lee Van Quathem (husband, Bob) of Phoenix, Arizona; seven grandchildren: Jennifer Stringham, Jim Parle, Dr. Steven Parle, Stephanie Parle, Courtney Hansen, Larry Van Quathem and Jay Van Quathem. Barney also enjoyed seven great grandchildren: Scotty, Chris, Jack, Trevor, Nichole, Ashley and Patrick.
