Vernon Peterson Obituary

Vernon L. Peterson, 80, of Sun City West, Arizona, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 22, 2007. Vern was born May 2, 1926 in Duluth, Minnesota, the only child of Hernrietta and Leonard Peterson. He graduated from Denfeld High School in 1944 and joined the Navy where he spent 2 years in the South Pacific. When he returned he attended UMD. On September 11, 1948 he married Aris Ekstrom and they moved to Houghton, Michigan where he received a BS in Electrical and Design Engineering from Michigan Tech. He worked with US Steel Corporation for 17 years before joining Bechtel Corporation for another 17-1Ž2 years. Moving every few years became part of their lives and ultimately they lived in 26 homes in 11 states. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1998 with a Caribbean cruise, and 2 weeks in Hawaii with 5 other couples who were all close friends from Walnut Creek, California, their ³main² home. They were long time members of St. Matthew¹s Lutheran Church. When Vern retired in 1987, they moved to San Clemente, California, where he did consulting work until 1996. Then they moved to Sun City West, Arizona and joined Lord of Life Lutheran Church. Vernon is survived by Aris and their two sons, Steve (Connie) of Westcliff, Colorado and Randy (Debbie) of San Clemente, California; and his grandchildren: Steven, Brandy, Barry, Jonathan, Mikael, Michelle and Noelle; and his great grandson, Zacchai. A memorial service was held at Lord of Life Lutheran Church on Monday, March 26, 2007.
