Andrew M. Blumberg, M.D., died peacefully on April 2, 2017, surrounded by his family and friends. Andy was born and raised in New Brunswick, NJ. He graduated from Rutgers Preparatory School ('66), the University of Wisconsin-Madison ('70), and George Washington University School of Medicine ('74). Andy completed his Internship and Residency with Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. During his 40-year career as a pediatrician, 'Dr. B' cared for thousands of children. Andy served as Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, Credentials Committee member, and Vice Chief of Staff for Saddleback Women's Hospital. He served as Hoag Memorial Hospital's Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics and as a member of the Medical Executive Committee. He was the Chief Liaison between CHOC and the Department of Pediatrics at Hoag. He was the founder and CEO of KidsDoc and UrgiKids. Andy's greatest joy was treating his young patients, practicing medicine until the time of his death. Andy took daily walks in Laguna Beach. He loved history, football, basketball, steak and sushi. He cherished his family and his friends. Andy is survived by his loving children, Jeremy (Ally), Adam (Dana) and Annie (Matt); his beloved sister Joanne; and his precious grandchildren Poppy, Brandon, Henry and Ethan. He was preceded in death by his proud parents, Ed and Shirley.Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society. A memorial for Andy will be held on April 9th in Irvine, Calif. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Dr. Blumberg was my pediatrician from when I was born to when I turned 18. I am now a father myself taking my first child to a pediatrician and it made me think of how great this man was to me and for me. I was very saddened to hear of his passing. The world could use 100 more just like him. Rest in peace doctor, you did great.

I found out very late about Dr. Blumbergs passing. I was one of his patients from the day I was born until I age 18. Him and I used to joke around all the time. I remember all the silly stories he would tell me and laughs that we had. Rest In Peace Dr. B❤

When my family heard of his passing we were deeply saddened. My daughter was born premature and in his care day 1, he took such great care of her and always talked sports with her and her softball. At 14 she was accepted to Mater Dei to study and play Softball, couldn't wait to share the news with him but it was too late. Our deepest heartfelt condolences. WE have missed him dearly and quite upset to no longer have him. He was the best!

Dr. Blumberg was always professional and caring in the 17 years he served as our family pediatritian. I was especially grateful when he pushed to open UrgiKids, since one of my sons was prone to ear infections and we needed their services many times. So sad to learn of Dr. B's passing. He took such good care of my boys these last thirteen years. They loved talking with him about football and basketball, but their favorite memory is how he'd mangle the names of Star Wars characters so badly that they'd have to correct him and educate him on the story. Of course he was doing it intentionally and they kind of knew that, but it was so much fun they couldn't resist playing along. Dr. B was the best.
