James Stamper Obituary

Jim passed away on December 20, 2018 in Newport Beach with family at his side. Jim attended Dartmouth University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Jim was a leader in Warfare Area Analysis and contributed significantly to the capabilities of the U.S. military. After retiring from his career as an aerospace engineer at McDonnell-Douglas and General Dynamics, he consulted at Johns Hopkins University on special projects. He valued most highly the companionship of his wife and family. He maintained an enduring passion for flying his sailplane, was a devoted sailor who first navigated Newport Harbor in 1948 in his sailboat "Rum Bucket", and enjoyed travel and his beloved Chihuahua, Bruno. His affable smile and dry humor are remembered by all who enjoyed his company. Jim is survived by his wife, Christine Stamper, his children, Bruce Clark Stamper, Peg E. Rollans, Elizabeth Jane Bigham (Richard), Michael Bernard (Patrick McGowan), and Jacqueline T. Bernard (Christopher Gomez), 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Burial will be a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Environmental Defense Fund, which can be made by visiting www.edf.org/honor.
