Raquel Loschacoff Kottler

March 1, 2022 Longtime Newport Beach, California, resident Raquel Loschacoff Kottler passed away on March 1, 2022 in Pensacola, Florida, at the age of 102. She had been living in Florida since 2018 to be near family members in the area. In her last few years she was a member of Pensacola's Carpenters' Creek senior citizens community and delighted her fellow residents with energetic piano music of her native Argentina.
Raquel was born on the Argentine pampas in 1920 and moved to the capital, Buenos Aires, as a child. Showing early promise as a pianist, she attended the musical conservatory of the prestigious Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires and then gave performances on stages and recordings throughout the 1930's and 40's. In 1953 she and her husband and three sons moved to New York, where they lived for nine years before moving to Southern California. Settling first in Corona del Mar and then in Newport Beach, she continued to perform in local venues and to teach piano. She was a resident of Park Newport for more than 45 years.
She was noted for her entertainment skills as well as her generosity to her many friends, both Americans and Latin Americans, in the Orange County area. She was an enthusiastic performer of tangos, the emblematic music of Argentina.
Raquel was pre-deceased by her husband, Abraham Kottler, also of Argentina, and survived by her three sons, Hugo, Raul, and Daniel, and their wives, plus six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was seen as the matriarch of a large extended family in the US, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, France, and Israel. Pending funeral arrangements, she will be interred overlooking the ocean in Newport Beach.
