John Edward "Ed" Shaver, 81, of the Hillsview Community near Riceville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on Sunday, April 24, 2022. Ed was a native of Meigs County and lifelong resident of McMinn County. He was the son of the late Alfred and Nellie Bennett Shaver. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Elizabeth Gentry Shaver (mother of William "Pug" Shaver); brothers, Ott Shaver and Oscar Eugene Shaver; sister, Sarah Fairbanks; son, John Boyd and daughter-in-law, Karen Swafford Boyd. Ed was a member of Bethel Springs Baptist Church in Lamontville. He enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, car racing and auctioneering. He was one of the founders of the Hillsview Volunteer Fire Department. He co-owned and sponsored Shaver Racing, was the "The Maverick" CB radio operator and avid UT fan. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Dean Womac Boyd Shaver; sons, William "Pug" Shaver (Debbie) of Athens, Charles "Bub" Boyd (Teresa) of Riceville, and Jerry Boyd of the Hillsview Community;
daughters, Deb Boyd of the Hillsview Community and Janet (Marty) Hiefnar of the Rogers Creek Community; daughter-in-law, Cindi Fairbanks Boyd of Meigs County; 15 grandchildren; brothers, Preston Shaver of Decatur, James Shaver of Riceville and Sid Shaver of Decatur; sisters, Susie Shaver Guffey of Decatur, Rosie Shaver Gennoe of Athens and Joy Shaver Webb of Riceville; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and special friends, Willis Sliger, Clifton Wright, Jim and Mae Copelands and Jean Womac. Ed will be missed by his dog "Rocky" and horse "Hawk." Funeral Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday April 28, 2022 at Ziegler Funeral Home with Rev. Garry King and Rev. Gene Guffey officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. on Thursday at Ziegler Funeral Home prior to the funeral. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Beta Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tracy Elliott, Josh Flory, Jeremy Edwards, Will Hiefnar, Tristan Sneed, Johnathan Shaver, Chase Boyd and Adam Bishop. Honorary pallbearers will be Claude Womac, David Womac and Wyatt Flory.
