POQUOSON - Charles Dee Byrd, 63, passed away unexpectedly on Sept 10, 2016. Born Sept 27, 1953 in Charlotte, NC and moved to Hampton, VA in 1963. He graduated from Pembroke High School in 1971. In 2002, Charlie moved to Poquoson and was employed by the City of Poquoson until 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dee and Ruth Watts Byrd; his brothers, Eugene and Sonny Miller and sister, Mary Byrd Edmonds. Charlie had a heart of gold and will be missed immensely by all who knew and loved him. He loved home projects, but his favorite pastimes were fishing, traveling and spending time with his family. Charlie leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 32 years, Rita Holt Byrd; daughter, Ashley Byrd, who he loved dearly; brothers, Tommy Miller (Melissa), Dennis Miller (Gerlyn); sister, Wanda Trulley (Heinz) and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 1:00 - 3:00 pm, Saturday, September 17, 2016 followed by a Celebration of Charlie's life at 3:00 p.m. at Parkiawn-Wood Funeral Home. Interment in Parklawn Memorial Park immediately after. The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Poquoson Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 2099, Poquoson, VA 23662 or a charity of your choice. Friends are encouraged to visit www.parklawn-woodfh.com to share memories and words of condolence with the family.
