I was so sorry to hear of Charlie?s passing. I considered him a true friend and he will be sorely missed. I am sorry that I cannot be with you as I am in Hawaii until April. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. My love to you all. Just keep the memories close to your heart always.

Sarah and I moved to Beach Road in 1982, just a couple of years before Charley retired. We had two small children then. Two more came along later. Charley always kept an eye out for those kids. It was a mark of his natural kindness. One time he even got the city to add a speed limit sign just up the street, near the turn off of Pasture Road. He was worried not for his own family, but for our children. We were always grateful that we and our kids had such kindhearted neighbors as Anne and Charley. -Steve and Sarah Corneliussen

I remember Charley Mayer as a kind and warm man, always with a thoughtful word. He genuinely cared about others. He loved his family dearly. He showed those who meant the most to him appreciation and love in the way he knew best - in an unassuming and gentle way. He was my neighbor, he was one of my parents' best friends. And I like to think that I was a friend to him as well, for he was certainly a friend to me.

Charley was a true friend. We will miss him but never forget him. It has been said that when an old man dies, a library burns down. Charley was filled with books, none more heartwarming than the one about he and Ann. We are enriched from having read him. Sleep well my friend. You lived the final chapter.
