My deepest and belated sympathy to your family. I knew the then MG Simmons as Commanding General of the 3d Armored Division in Frankfurt, Germany. I remember one day I was briefing him out in the field near Bad Hersfeld, Germany and he pulled two (2) boiled eggs out of a brown paper bag and ask me if I had had lunch and offered me one. That says more about the man than I could explain in 500 words. Billy White (VA)

I had the distinct pleasure of knowing Mr. Simmons for 15 years , along with his wonderful wife Mrs. Simmons, having worked where they played golf. Mr. Simmons was the kindest, thoughtful man I knew and lived life to the fullest. I had the utmost respect for him and his service to our country but had no idea the true nature of his real dedication to our country, a very humble man as well. I know I am a better person for having known Mr. Simmons (and Mrs. Simmons) and my thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. God Bless and RIP Mr. Simmons, you will be greatly missed.

Uncle George and Aunt Maurine Simmons were so proud of Charles James but hardly more than the rest of the Simmons family. Charles James made us all proud to be a Simmons.

Sandy and I were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of General Simmons, and our heartfelt condolences go out to Joanne and family along with our thoughts and prayers. General Simmons was the commanding general of the 3rd Armored Division when we were with the 1st Battalion, 33rd Armor. It was an honor and privilege to serve in his command, and a great pleasure to know him. Now we are comforted knowing that he is with friends at Fiddler's Green.

It was a distinct honor to know General Simmons. We all here at PCI are saddened that he has left us, but I know that in heaven there is a need for a hard core Armor General to lead the Angels to battle. I will miss his "fist-pump" and "Go Armor", "And like the old soldier of that ballad, I now close my military career and just fade away, an old soldier who tried to do his duty as God gave him the light to see that duty. Good-by."
