David was an awesome person. I met him when I was about three years of age. He was very spiritual and served God the best way he could. I'll never forget the time he took me out to the Hampton Coliseum parking lot and let me practice driving his car. He laughed at me saying I was trying to be to cool and need to put both hands on the wheel. I enjoyed the many times he would come over and hangout with the family. He was family. He loved the kids, and was a great football coach. David was also a great vocalist. I pray he's still singing in heaven.

My heart felt condolences go out to the Horton family. David was one of the funniest guys around. His humor and wit was evident in his approach to life, friends and the world. He was a unique musician with bounds of creativity. God Bless you my brother.

I knew David Horton from the Wythe firehouse. He was a one of a kind individual. He lifted my spirit anytime I was around him. That "Hey, hey, hey" of his would echo through the whole station when he was on duty. He was a person who I could listen to and never become bored. He was a person who I trusted my life to as he was the pump operator that kept the water flowing on the fire calls I went on. Every time I saw David I would walk away a happier soul. I will miss him.... He was my friend.....

David L. Horton, a fellow firefighter, a funny guy, a guy we all looked up to, a guy who took me on what he called the " TEST" with the 1972 Mack Fire Engine on Otley Lane ( I had a mailbox stuck in between the discharges>>>with Horton yelling at me...you suck!) , a guy who helped me through a trying time in my life, a guy who I loved. Although our contact had fell apart, you cannot change how you feel about a person like Dave! I missed his funeral today and he let me know it in my dreams! Paid me a little visit! His death leaves a whole in my heart and I am sure others as well. Dave was a special guy. From the days when he was in the band to him yelling "HOOO YOOO" out of the window upstairs from his Wythe Station Condo, I am sure all will agree, he touched us all in his own way!

David was a gift to us who worried about things or had trouble in our lives. He could get you to laugh even in the worst of times when you just didn’t know what to do. Of course if you took yourself too seriously he’d break out his “violin” and sing “Cry me a River …” Horton was like part of the family and teased everybody – even my grandmother! Be at peace good dear friend.

Dave I remember when you came to the fire department. I really did not know just what to think of your outward & animated personallity. From the begining to the end with The Horton there was never a dull moment. I remember your time at Wythe and your penthosue where your favorite couch was. You will be sorely missed here Dave, but God now has another FF/Comedian in his service. I remember your famouse words, Good Gogidy Mogidy. I will see you again my friend. To all who were touched by you, friends and family, be comforted that The Horton will suffer no more. A chapter complete, a life well lived, a rest well deserved.

To Horton Family,
I had the privilege of working with Horton for many years. If I had seen him at the Hampton Mall at a distance, I would holler 'hey' boy. A joke between he and I. He would holler back even without looking, "what do you mean 'boy.'" He would know it was me. I know he took a quart of shucked raw oysters with him so he could pass them around. He was a lot of fun and a joy to work with. I know he has old St. Peter laughing at the Gate. Anybody knew Horton as I did knew that would be the truth. Sorely missed by all that knew him.
My fondest and deepest sympathy to the family.

David Horton was a gifted individual he could make you laugh until you cried.I will miss him because we played together as children on Quash Street. He always knew when to give a smile when you were sad. Today I cried because a special friend died. All of the Quash Street gang will miss David Horton.

I would like to express my sympathy to the Horton family. I can remember when I joined Wythe Volunteer Fire Company. I was introduced to David as "The Horton", he didn't say a word at first, but said everything with his eyes. I remember the first words he said, Hello, I am the Legend, they call me "The Horton." The next time that I came to the station, I got out of my car and heard, "HEY", "HEY", I looked up to see the smilling face of "The Horton". He was a special man. When you wanted to talk he would listen, when he wanted to talk you wanted to listen. He was a great man and will be greatly missed by Hampton. Heaven is smiling now! :)
May God Bless your family during this difficult time.

What a wonderful spirit David is. Heaven is going to have a great time when he arrives and teams up with Firefighter Henry Estes again. David here on Earth could keep a wide grin on anyone's face with his words and expressions. Such great memories he has left with Roxann and I reminiscing about him since news of his passing. A Smile left this world, but he has left so many other Smiles behind.

To the Horton Family, I would like to express my condolences to you in the loss of David. I grew up with David and we went to school together, I still remember him being so much fun all of the time. One thing David said to me over forty years ago that I still remember. I was walking in North Hampton with some friends on what was a very, very cold Winter day. Everyone was all bundled up except me; I have never forgotten what David said about me that day. He said, I was so skinny that the wind just past by me, that’s why I wasn’t cold, David made me so mad that day, but that was David, and I always loved him. Later in our lives, my Dad began to suffer from seizers; David was one of the ones that would always come to my parent’s house to transport my Dad to the hospital. He was still the same old David but in a grown up way. He was always my friend. I pray that the Lord will provide you all with the peace and understanding necessary to help you get through what I know to be a very difficult time.

I would like to express my condolences to you, the Horton family with sincere sympathy for your loss. David and I went to school together and graduated from Pembroke High. He would always put a smile on your face when he came around. I had not seen David in years but the memory of him still exists in me and all that knew him. My prayers will be with the family and may he rest in peace.

God Bless you David Horton, I thought of you as a big brother and cherish the great times we spent together working side by side at the Wythe Fire Station, taking all those ambulance calls and going to all those fires back in the good old days when we had fires. You made me feel welcome the first day I walked in Station #3 back in 1983 as a scared young kid of just 22. I can remember the exact words you said that day. "Hello Brian Singles, welcome to the armpit of the city." and from that day on we had nothing but fun. I thoroughly enjoyed those 8 or 9 years we worked together, you taught me alot about being a good fireman and how to drive that old 1972 Mack. You were the best friend anyone ever had in the fire department, I'm am truly going to miss you old friend. Say hi to Sid Chellis for me. Love Brian Singles.
