Earl D. Haynes Sr.

HAMPTON - Deacon Earl Dyke Haynes slipped away to be with the Lord at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002. He was born January 27, 1918, to the late Paul J. Haynes and Agnes B. Williams Dykes. Deacon Haynes was predeceased by his son, Donald S. Haynes. On June 17, 1970, he married Alma Beatrice Haynes. He received his education in the public school system of Virginia. He worked for many, many years for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad and retired honorably. He was well-loved by everyone he met. Deacon Haynes was appointed and ordained deacon at the West End Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Hallie Richardson Sr. His favorite song was "May the Work I've Done Speak for Me" and his favorite Scripture is Deut. 6: 4-9. He leaves to cherish his memory his lovely, devoted and loving wife, Alma Beatrice Haynes; five sons, Earl D. Haynes Jr. (Alice) of Fayetteville, GA, Morris R. Haynes (Janie) of Stewartville, MN, Samuel P. Haynes (Earlene) of Newport News, VA, David L. Haynes of Richmond, VA, and Velton Gardner (Alice) of Lynchburg, VA; four daughters, Ellen H. Ford of Newport News, VA, Susan H. Nichols (John) of Hampton, VA, Nancy H. Jones of Roanoke, VA, and Linda H. Spinner (Tony) of Goode, VA. He also leaves to cherish his memory 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held at 12 noon Saturday at West End Baptist, Hampton, Va. Burial in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel in charge.
