Frances Wood Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Frances Clark Wood, 'MeMe,' 82, passed away Friday, March 5, 2004. She was a resident of Newport News, and a native of Towncreek, N.C. She spent most of her life on the Peninsula. She was a longtime member of Orcutt Baptist Church and active in many of its programs including Sunday school. She also volunteered at the Virginia Baptist Home. Frances, or 'MeMe' as known by all who loved her, was thoughtful and caring, loving and giving, and a kind-hearted, Christian woman, whose presence will be missed by all who knew her. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ernest O. Wood Jr. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Ernest Dale Wood and his wife, Beverly, of Chesapeake; her grandchildren, Ryan Wood and his wife Jen, of Plainfield, Ill., and Cristy Moody and her husband, David, of King George County, Va.; and her three sisters, Lucille and Ruby Wilson of Wilson, N.C., and Elsie Bone of Wando, S.C. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, at the Peninsula Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday at the Peninsula Memorial Park. The service is to be conducted by the Rev. Ken Trinkle. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Attn: ADA Web, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720, or the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., Suite 1100, New York, NY 10016.
