Perhaps it is a God thing that I looked at the on line Daily Press for the first time in several years. Mr Proffit gave me my first job. I was 15 and he was managing Paul's Supermarket in Hilton Village. I am now 55. I went on to work with him at Farm Fresh in Phoebus and perhaps one other place while in high school and college. Altough I lost touch with him when I graduated from college and moved to North Carolina I remember his kindeness to me and interest in what I was doing. A tough boss - but a fair man. I hope the years were as good to him as he was to me.
