Jason Johnston Obituary

Jason Allen Johnston, 37, of Newport News, died on May 31, 2022. Born November 20, 1984, Jason was the son of Sheri Ross Stall and Steven Kyle Johnston. He was predeceased by his father and maternal grandfather, Jim Ross. Following in the footsteps of his father and maternal great-grandfather Merle "Pappy" Ross, Jason was an expert welder who took great pride in his work. He could fix just about anything with a motor and build anything with tools passed down from his father and grandfathers, extending a family legacy of proud work with your own hands. Jason was an avid hunter and fisherman who cherished fishing with his son. Jason was a devoted husband of 15 years to Tasha Johnston and the proud father of son Brady and daughter Aubree. Jason enjoyed coaching Brady's Little League teams and watching him play travel and high school baseball. Jason looked forward to introducing Aubree to ball sports. Jason was a loving grandson to Pete and Joan Johnston and helped care for Joan as her health declined. Jason had a great sense of humor (which he often inflicted on his mother, Sheri), a trait he passed on to son Brady. In addition to his wife, children and mother (Dave Stall), Jason is survived by brother Nate Johnston; grandparents Anna Ross, Pete and Joan Johnston, and Peg Burt; in-laws Mark and Penny Jeffries; aunts Robyn Burnette, Renee Allen (Michael), and Diana Spencer (Tracy); uncles Mike Johnston (Donna) and David Johnston (Kelly); brothers-in-law AJ Jeffries (Angela) and Mitchell Jeffries (Hannah); two nieces and two nephews, numerous cousins, and extended family; all of whom loved Jason dearly. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on June 5 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6807 Huntington Ave., Newport News. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you be grateful for, love, be good to, and appreciate your own family, and live your life to the fullest.

Jason,
I just learned of Your passing last night...
As Your Grandparents next door neighbor of three years, I only knew You through a hello and a wave or a few brief conversations (like discussing we both had no problem side parking on the front entry alley despite others making comments to us ...several times -lol) however, I have admired Your commitment to Mr. Pete and Ms. Joan through out these years. Both You and Your cousin Love for Your Grandparent´s has been truly heartwarming to observe and I know how much You will be truly missed by Mr. Pete. I pray for strength for Your entire Family and hope Mr. Pete will reach out should He need anything in the couple weeks. Rest Easy Man.

Jason, I have no idea what to say.....we had so many fond memories from battling over who's shoes were fastest along with countless hunting and fishing trips...saying we were cousins didn't give our relationship justice.....saying we were best friends wouldn't either....we were brothers and together all the time...life happened and we couldn't spend the time together we wanted to...but know I loved you much....it doesn't feel real knowing I won't see you at the next crazy family gathering or impromptu cook out..I have lots of regrets, and questions I'll never get answers to, but I can promise I'll be there for Tasha, Brady and Aubree...I will tell the stories of our crazy expeditions and make sure they know the fun loving person I knew....you rest easy and we will take it from here. I love you buddy and maybe one day we'll see that train again....love Bryan.

We have continued to lift the entire family up to God . . . Grateful for the love that each of you gave to Jason!
Human hands cannot save us . . . But God!
"Behold, the Lord´s hand is not shortened,
That it cannot save . . . ". Isaiah 59:1 Jason is now in His everlasting arms. Praying for Holy Spirit Comfort & Peace for family & friends . . . beyond our understanding.
Bill & I are appreciative to Pete & Joan for the brief times spent with Jason on this earth . . . and we look forward to seeing him again in Glory!

My beloved nephew, you made me an Aunt for the first time, you were my "Guinea pig" for me becoming a mom for the first time, I learned from you what to do and what not to do when becoming a mom. I will always cherish you and your jokes. I love you forever. Fly high....
