Dan "Danny" Magahay, a cherished husband, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, in
Hampton, Virginia, at the age of 93. Born on January 18, 1933, in
Detroit, Michigan, Danny led a life marked by dedication to his country, family, and community.
Danny proudly served in the United States Army, where he was a member of the Aviation division. His commitment to service extended beyond his military career as he transitioned into a skilled machinist. Danny's work ethic and precision were respected by all who knew him.
In 1966, he married the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth "Peggy" Magahay, and together they built a life rich in love and shared values. The couple dedicated much of their time to volunteering at the local Veterans Affairs (VA) office, where they made lasting impacts on the lives of many veterans. As active members of the American Legion Auxiliary Volunteers and the Hampton Veterans Association, Danny and Peggy embodied a spirit of community service and camaraderie.
Danny's passion for connecting with his roots was a shared family trait, as the Magahay family deeply valued their ancestry and heritage. This connection to family history was a source of pride and joy for him throughout his life.
Danny is preceded in death by his wife Peggy Magahay; parents, Charles and Nellie Magahay; his brothers and sisters, Charles R., Robert, James, David, Larry, Fay, Mary Ellen, and Kathleen; and his niece, Lynda Magahay. He leaves behind a loving family including nieces and nephews: Charles B., Randall, Michael, Lori, Maureen, Nancy, and Lisa, along with a host of friends, family, and loved ones who will miss him dearly.
At this time, no formal services are scheduled to commemorate Danny's remarkable life. However, his legacy of service, kindness, and devotion to family will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
