John Drees Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - John Marcus Drees, 30, beloved husband and father, was taken home to be with our Lord on June 2, 2005. John was born in Newport News and grew up in York County, and was a graduate of Tabb High School. He and his family resided in Newport News where he was the owner/operator of his own towing company. John was a great father and will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Karen; and their three children, John Matthew (Boogie Man), Leora Ashleigh (his pumpkin pie), and Holly Madison (his little stinky). He also leaves behind his mother, Sue Drees; three brothers, David Drees and his wife, Angie, Gary Drees and Keith Drees and his wife, Mary; and his sister, Daina Fox and her husband, Brent. John was blessed to also have two nephews, Chris and Austin, as well as three nieces, Crystal, Aubrey and Marissa. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins; and members of Karen's family. John enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his three children. He loved watching them ride dirt bikes and four wheelers. His children's fondest memories were the week they spent in Florida last June as a family and they are sad that Holly will never experience this with him. We only hope his infant daughter will know how great he was and how much he loved her. He could often be found tinkering on cars and trucks, mostly with one of his best friends, Bobby. John's lifelong dream was to own his own towing company and he did get his dream for a short time. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, in Providence United Methodist Church with the Rev. Keith Moore officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, in Amory Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the John Drees Children's Memorial Fund, c/o Towne Bank in Grafton, 6515 George Washington Memorial Highway, Grafton, VA 23692.

Today it has been one year since John was taken away from you. Not a day goes by that I dont think of the Drees and Gowing families. I still wonder "why"... I hope that God will continue to surround your families with the courage and strength he has given you the past twelve months. Bobby and John will always be in my thoughts as well as their families. Each time I see the Ace Tow Truck it brings a smile to my face knowing that even though he is physically not here his spirit lives in every one he knew.

Karen and children,Sue and family,

It has been a year since John went to be with our Lord. And yet I know there is still so much pain. Please know that we continue to keep you all in our prayers. Providence is blessed to have your family as part of our church family and we want to help in any way we can in the future as you face the challenges of raising John's 3 beautiful children. God loves you and so do we.

To the Drees Family,

I can't begin to imagine how difficult and painful the past few months have been for you all. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I was shaken when I heard the news and my thoughts and prayers have been with you since.

I have many happy childhood memories of the time I spent in your warm and loving home. Mostly, I remember the laughter. Of course there was also the Hot Wheels, dirt clod fights, wrestling in the living room and so much more.

Daina, I always thought of you and John as being as close to twins as anyone could get without actually being twins. I remember the fights and squabbles the two of you had (as all siblings do). I also saw how John would stick up for you if ever an outsider wronged you or said so much as an unkind word... and I saw you do the same for him. I saw so much love.

I didn't know John as the man he grew to be. From everything I have read I can tell he was a wonderful father and great family man.... following his dream of the life he wanted. That must have made him a very happy man.

I hope in time you can take some ease and comfort in knowing that he is in a peaceful place. He has been called home to where he can watch over you always... especially over his three adoring children. John's love will always be with you, and your love with him.

God Bless you all,

Leslie

To the Drees Family,

I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. John and I went to Dare Elementery School together and I remember playing football and Hot Wheels cars with him as a child. Unfortunately John and I lost touch of each other in middle school. I only wish I would have stayed in touch with him. My prayers go out to you and your family on your recent loss.
